Extract from the Report of Dr Stephen Darnell

As you may well know, I serve as the Field Director for Church of God World Missions with oversight of the CIS. Ukraine therefore comes under my assignment. I have been asked how things are progressing from our viewpoint. I thought I would share with you my thoughts…We are all joining our hearts and hands together in assisting in this need.

Across Ukraine at this present time, we, the Church of God have near one hundred established churches. As of today, to the best of our calculations, forty-two of these churches are in harm’s way. Confirmed attacks have been reported in Kyiv, Kharkin, Odessa, Mariupol, Sloviansk and Kramatorst.
The war came within twenty miles of Mariupol, a major city located in South-eastern Ukraine. One of the three supported Church of God orphanages in Ukraine is in Mariupol under the direction of Gennadiy Mokhnenko. The name of this orphanage is “The Pilgrim Republic.” This orphanage consists of just less than one hundred children. For the safety of the children and employees an evacuation plan was set in motion and through Samaritan Ministries, Germany, Church of God World Missions has made a large contribution towards, food, clothing, fuel, trucks, housing, and staff to help enable this to happen.

The war has also come within twenty-five miles of Sloviansk. This is the city where a second orphanage is located called “The Sails of Hope.” This orphanage consists of around forty children. For the safety of the children an evacuation plan was set in motion and through Samaritan Ministries, Germany, Church of God World Missions has made an additional large contribution towards, food, clothing, fuel, trucks, housing, and staff to enable this to happen.

Without providing names, let me add that two Church of God pastors and their families have been evacuated from war zones. One from the area of Zolotoe, Ukraine and the other from the area of Mironivka, Ukraine. Each being assisted by monies provided by Church of God World Missions donors.

… Samaritan Ministry truck operational cost is estimated at $8,000 per truck. We will send as many trucks as possible. It cost an estimated $2,500 per Pastor and family to evacuate the family to a safe place. We estimate as many as fifty pastoral families will need this help.

Our neighbouring countries, through Church of God National Offices will be assisting fleeing refugees to safety, temporary housing, food, and shelter. While this assistance will cost thousands, Church of God World Missions is committed to providing all that we can.
End of report

In response to Dr Darnell’s report and what we are seeing on our television screens, I am asking all pastors, members and friends to assist in the following ways:

1. Please arrange for urgent intercessory prayer in your local Church, virtually or in-person; what is important is that we pray.
Things to pray for:
• The leaders and brave people of Ukraine
• The displaced families
• The Russian people and their leaders
• World leaders
• Peace in Europe, and the wider world.
We can all agree that this is not an exhaustive list.
2. I would appreciate it if you would continue to raise funds to aid our Churches and Orphanages and the people of Ukraine. I am aware that for some of you this will be a challenge; however, we must all play our part in this humanitarian effort.

You can also send cheques to NTCG, 3 Cheyne Walk, Northampton, NN1 5PT: Please make your cheques payable to ‘NTCG’ and state that it is for the Ukraine Appeal. Your financial contributions will be sent directly to the Church of God World Missions Department.
Thank you for your kind support, and please be assured that all donations will be used for the designated purpose.

Yours in the Master’s Service
Dr. Donald Bolt
